President and CEO Frank Bolton and Executive Vice President Franklin Bolton are two of nine children who grew up in Warren County, NC. They began working side by side at an early age and their childhood chore of harvesting short pulpwood on their family’s farm lead to the formation of a logging partnership between the brothers in the mid ‘60s. Additionally, they ran five wood yards and later moved on to whole tree chipping.
The Boltons established B&B Chip Mill in the late ‘80s when pulp and paper
companies took business to independent chip mills. The original mode of transporting
chips was by rail, but eventually shifted to truck delivery due to the sag
in rail service. Trucks became the main method of delivery in the late ‘90s
and rail delivery ceased earlier this decade, which led to the establishment
of B&B Trucking.
Along the way, the Boltons also turned the chip mill’s bark volume into higher
value mulch and established B&B Mulch.
